Knitting socks in Rasipuram since 2000

A fully computerised sock manufacturing unit in Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu, producing around 100,000 pairs a month, roughly 1.2 million pairs a year, for retail, institutional and export buyers.

Our history

Allwin Socks began in 2000, when Sugumar started the unit on his own in Rasipuram with six knitting machines. Everything was earned from there, order by order, and reinvested back into the floor.

In 2011 came the move that changed the business: the first computerised knitting machines. Designs that had been out of reach were suddenly possible, and consistency stopped depending on who was operating the machine.

In 2015 the first export shipment left for Dubai. Twenty-five years on, six machines have become twenty-five fully computerised ones, and the unit produces plain, rib, terry, jacquard, knee-high, half-cushion and ankle socks for men, women and children, with the same person still running it.

Our milestones

  1. 2000

    Started with six machines

Sugumar set up the unit on his own in Rasipuram, Namakkal district, knitting socks on six machines.

  2. 2011

    Went fully computerised

Investment in computerised knitting machines opened up jacquard patterning, multi-colour designs and batch-to-batch consistency.

  3. 2015

    First export shipment — Dubai

Our first overseas order shipped to Dubai, and export work has been part of the business ever since.

  4. Today

    25 machines, 1.2 million pairs a year

Knitting, linking, boarding and packing all run in-house, serving retail, institutional and export buyers — from 500 pairs upward.

What we do

We produce socks of every construction, plain and terry, in any design or pattern the buyer specifies. Our fashion socks are unisex, and we regularly manufacture to a buyer's own design, colour card and size chart rather than a fixed catalogue.

Because knitting, linking, boarding and packing all happen in-house, there are fewer hands between the yarn and the carton. That means tighter control over quality and factory-direct pricing on bulk orders.

Machinery

The manufacturing process is fully computerised, from knitting through to finishing.

Computerised knitting — 25 machines

Single-cylinder knitting machines ranging from 108 to 168 needles. Drumless, fully electronic control, with 1 main feeder plus 5 pattern feeders.

Colour & pattern capability

Up to 16 colours including one ground colour on the same course. Pattern, chain and jacquard programs can be modified directly at the keyboard.

Linking — 3 machines

A dedicated linking section closing toes cleanly, with efficient reciprocated knitting producing a true heel and toe.

Boarding & finishing — 2 machines

Finished socks are boarded to shape and size before final inspection and packing.

Automatic monitoring

Multiple stop-motion sensors halt production on error, and an automatic oil-checking device keeps machines running consistently.

Production capacity

Average output of around 100,000 pairs per month, roughly 1.2 million pairs a year, varying with the size and design of the sock.

Uniform cutting & stitching

Our uniform division runs alongside the sock factory, with dedicated cutting tables and a full stitching floor producing school and sports uniform sets to each buyer's colour and size chart.

Raw materials

We knit with cotton yarn, Coolmax, viscose, poly, nylon, polyester, wonderlon, polypropylene and Lycra or spandex, chosen to give the softness and stretch a particular sock needs. Colour is open. We match whatever the design calls for.

Quality control

We take responsibility for every product through strict quality assurance and close internal communication. A dedicated quality team works to each buyer's standard, and a strong R&D function keeps developing new styles and patterns.

Raw material check

Yarn is inspected for count, colour and consistency before production begins.

In-process inspection

Knitting, linking, sizing and colour are checked at each stage of production.

Final inspection

Finished socks are checked for defects after boarding and before packing.

Pre-dispatch check

Orders are verified against quantity and specification before they ship.

Our team

Our workers are well trained, and our floor staff bring 10 years and above of knitting experience. That depth is why we're comfortable inviting buyers to test our quality before placing a bulk order.
